Paint and Gelcoat Protection

Protection that makes the next wash easier.

A marine ceramic coating adds a protective layer over properly prepared gelcoat or paint. It helps resist staining and UV, and it makes washing noticeably easier.

Expect roughly 1–2 seasons (1–2 years) of protection, depending on use, storage, and upkeep. The result depends on the preparation. We decontaminate, correct, and polish the surface first, because a coating locks in whatever is underneath it. A coating is not a substitute for care: it still needs gentle washing and periodic maintenance.

Good to know

What a ceramic coating does and doesn't do

Coatings help protect surfaces and make cleaning easier. They don't make a boat scratch-proof, and they aren't permanent. Plan on roughly 1–2 seasons (1–2 years) of protection, depending on use, storage, and how the boat is maintained. Anyone promising much longer isn't being straight with you.

Condition comes first

Heavily oxidized or damaged gelcoat needs correction before it can be coated. We'll assess the surface and tell you what it needs.

$175 minimum visit. Starting rates are for accessible boats under 25 ft. Heavy correction is extra, and larger boats and difficult access are quoted separately.

Common questions

Does ceramic coating make my boat scratch-proof?

No. A coating adds a protective layer and helps with staining, UV, and cleaning, but it can still scratch. Be wary of anyone who says otherwise.

How long does a ceramic coating last?

Plan on about 1–2 seasons (1–2 years). How long it holds up depends on how the boat is used, where it's stored, and how it's washed. Claims of many years on a boat that lives outdoors on the water are not realistic.

Wax or ceramic coating?

Wax is the lower-cost option and is reapplied more often. A coating takes more preparation and costs more up front, with easier upkeep afterward. We can price both for your boat.
